Hi, I'm Lucas
I like to build things. My main areas of interest are NLP and GIS.
I graduated from the University of Utah in spring 2026 after majoring in Computer Science and Linguistics, and am continuing at Utah with my MS in Computing in the AI track. I'm very interested in all things NLP, with a focus on RL, multilingual NLP, and tokenization. I'm currently working on a project involving increasing CoT faithfulness with UtahNLP, and am fortunate to be supervised by Dr. Ana Marasović. In the past I worked on a tokenization project extending byte-level tokenizers as outlined in BoLMO with Ana and Maitrey Mehta.
I also hold an interest in GIS and most things related to the natural world. During my senior year of college I was part of an amazing team that created WhereWild, an application that combines species occurrence data with GIS data to create in-depth field guides for hundreds of thousands of species. I'm planning on continuing its development and hopefully will post developer logs and updates on here semi-regularly.
